n900_topSince the first Linux powered Nokia phone became official last week, there has been a lot of buzz about device and the huge influx of various different photos, videos and even camera samples onto the internet but most of these materials were produced by Nokia Press studios and if you one of those who prefer real user experience over boring press materials read on!

They lucky bastards from Kiam Nokia have managed to get hands on the preproduction model of Nokia N900 and make an exclusive 5 minutes long hands on video that allows you to take a virtual walk-through the key features of Nokia’s hottest device.

The video is only available in Italian but you can easily switch off the sound and enjoy in a platform’s very responsive interface, multiple and widgets reach home-screens with a live streaming updated in a real time, the rotary-zoom featuer, and the overall slickness of Maemo 5.

Of course, Nokia N900 is not first Linux based device out there but what makes N900 different is how Nokia uses Linux and fact that Maemo is not yet another Linux BASED platform, Maemo IS Linux with a touch optimized interface, something that market has been waiting for a years, a real game-changer that will help Nokia to finally turn the tide of smartphone war in their favour and control the mobile market again.

KiAmaNokia Preview of Nokia N900

Don’t get me wrong, I am not saying that N900 is a perfect phone, not at all, my recent article about skinning possibilities of Nokia N900 shows that Maemo will need some time to evolve is something bigger and better but with such healthy open source community around the Maemo platform it shouldn’t take too long and the only problem with this device might be its phone functionality as device is obviously designed to converge computers

Nokia N900 is heavily optimized for landscape usage and most of the use cases are designed to make the maximum use of the WVGA display in landscape mode (desktop, dashboard, browser, email, messaging, photo gallery) and only basic phone functionality has been designed to work in portrait mode for single thumb usage!
