Fools Rush In: Savitz, Wedge Partners Analyst Are Idiots

Monday, 24 November 2014 06:34

thoughts_tmFrom time to time, we get analysts that make the craziest statements. Some are just so far off the charts, I have to pull out my trusty mobile and post a little balancing piece to keep sanity in check. This is one of these moments.

Take a good look at the pictures of the two gentlemen, and be sure to take anything they say with a grain of salt. The bearded, and obviously naive, gentleman in glasses is long-time Barron's West Coast Editor Eric J. Savitz. The youthful numbskull is Brian Blair, principal and equity analyst at Wedge Partners Corporation. If these guys offer you any financial advice, avoid it and run like the wind.

I know, I know. Savitz is a well respected financial journalist, and even I have regularly read his various articles and reports over the years. Blair is a respected, well-educated, often quo... .. .

Nokia N900: Smartphone, Palmtop, Or Something Else?

Monday, 24 November 2014 06:34

question_mark_tmSince the Nokia N900 has been announced, there have been a plethora of online reviews and articles about competing devices. I hear about devices such as the Nokia N97, Apple iPhone, Blackberry Storm2, HTC Touch Pro2, Palm Pre, and upcoming Verizon Droid/Motorola Sholes devices. Although this is great news for Linux fans, it is a somewhat empty victory for Maemo enthusiasts, who have been predicting a very successful year for the community and first Nokia’s Linux based phone because Gartner also predicts that various other Linux based devices including the mighty Nokia N900 will sell only 28 million units and take sixth place with just 5.4 percent of the market share.

So although the open-source operating systems are accumulating broader industry support, which is a factor that could potentially lead to modest market share increases in the coming years it is still very possible that Maemo powered devices will never be anything more than a fad among geeky enthu... .. .

The Truth About Nokia, Symbian, Maemo, Nokia N900 and the Nokia N97

Monday, 24 November 2014 06:34

thoughts_tmI have been busy lately, and haven't taken much time to address the community in my normal fashion, so there are plenty of things I've been dying to say. This has turned out much longer than I expected or intended, even after multiple edits. This is as condensed as I can get it, but I think it will dispel most of the myths and mess being spread across the web lately.

With so many developments in the mobile space, I now announce I have reverted to the christexaport of old. I inserted my RSS reader into my veins, Googled all of the research, took the pulse of most of the forums, blog comment sessions, water cooler whispers, and impromptu soapbox discussions on more sites than I could count, and now, at last, I'm fully prep... .. .
