Skype To Be Deeply Integrated Into Maemo 5 OS

skypeAccording to a spokesperson close to the development, Skype mobile team has confirmed that they’ll bring the world's leading Internet communications experience to the Nokia N900 and that Maemo 5 client will be available when the first hardware ship by the end of the month.

You may recall the Government fanfare that accompanied the launch of the Skype on the Nokia N800 couple of years ago when it was the only mobile device with Skype support and now thanks to the addition of the cell functionality, Nokia N900 owners around the world will also be able to use 3G to easily make and receive free Skype-to-Skype voice calls, in addition to low-cost Skype calls to landlines and mobile devices.

Nimbuzz Application To Be Ported For The Nokia N900!

nimbuzz_tmAccording to a recent post and the poll results (Nokia Maemo 43%, Linux 19, Blackberry Bold 18%, Symbian UIQ 17% and Palm Pre just 3%) on the official Nimbuzz blog, the next supported device will be Nokia N900 and they’ll start with porting application to Maemo 5 platform as soon as possible!!!

The results show clearly that Nokia Maemo is one the most popular operating systems, with 43% of users votes it leads the list of most requested operating systems to be supported and leaves others trailing behind close to each other. Linux, Blackberry and Symbian OS are on the second, third and forth place.

The poll results also show that there are a lot of Open Source fans among you which is great! Linux is second option in our top and this can be explained by the growing numbers of Netbooks and notebooks that run on Ubu... .. .

Video Presentation Of The Koffice’s Maemo 5 UI

kofficeSuresh Chande from the Nokia Maemo Devices R&D at Helsinki has made quite interesting video presentation KOffice running on a Maemo 5.

The application uses a custom user interface specifically designed to fit in with the Maemo 5 style. Part of the projects goals is to help KOffice mature its loading and rendering of MSOffice documents. It is also important to point out that all contributions to KOffice have been made directly inside the KOffice subversion repository.

This Office UI will be open sourced and will be available for download from Maemo extras-devel respository soon. Nokia To Offer KOffice Based Office Viewer for Nokia N900

kofficeThe KOffice team proudly announced today that Nokia has packaged their cross-platform office suite for Maemo 5 environment with addition of the new and finger friendly Maemo 5 UI.

This particularly means that KOffice is now fully compatible with the latest Maemo device but due the numerous bugs in this early beta stage it will not be embedded directly into the device and will be made available for download as 3rd party application in a typical Linux’s 'release early and often' policy.

Preview Of Mozilla's Mobile Browser For Maemo 5 Platform On A Nokia N900

fennecCouple of months ago, Mozilla, the nonprofit organization behind Firefox, has rolled out first public BETA version of Fennec, the long awaited mobile version of the their very popular desktop browser for Nokia's Linux based Maemo platform with hope that fully backed Fennec mobile browser could be ready to run on consumer smartphones by the end of the year for Windows Mobile and S60 devices.

Apparently, it seems that Mozilla will keep its promises and is planning to bring Mobile version of Firefox browser to the N900 in the next quarter, despite fact that Finns' native browser is powered by Mozilla technology with full Adobe Flash 9.4 support that in combination with high-resolution WVGA touch screen and fast internet connectivity makes mobile web browsing far more enjoyable than ever imagined!
